Somerville Man Arrested In Everett With Gun, Drugs: Police

Officers found cocaine, Xanax and a semi-automatic pistol in the 25-year-old's car when he was stopped Wednesday morning, police said.

EVERETT, MA – A Somerville man was arrested in Everett after officers found drugs and a gun in his car during a traffic stop Wednesday morning, police said. John Raymond, 25, was pulled over after police were told to look for a silver BMW possibly containing a weapon.

The BMW was one of two cars traveling parallel on High Street after officers cleared an "unruly" group on Broadway at Summer Street, police said. Raymond was stopped for a moving traffic violation and removed from the car.

Officers frisked him and found a knife and a "large amount of cash," police said. They searched the car and found an 8 ball of cocaine, 349 whole Xanax bars, 28 broken Xanax bars and a 40-caliber Sig Sauer semi-automatic pistol with a defaced serial number and three rounds of ammunition, according to police.

Raymond was arrested without incident and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with defaced serial numbers, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of a Class E substance (Xanax) with intent to distribute, illegal possession of a Class B substance (cocaine) and a stop sign violation.

"I commend the work of the officers in this incident," Everett Police Chief Steven Mazzie said in a statement. "Any time we can remove firearms from those engaged in criminal activity without anybody getting hurt is a good thing."
