Somerville Man Charged With OUI In Arlington Crash

The 25-year-old allegedly told police he could drive his car, which had four flat tires after crashing into a stone wall.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A Somerville man was charged with drunken driving in Arlington last week after crashing into a stone wall, police said. Officers responded to the intersection of Mystic Street and Ridge Street around 8:15 p.m. Thursday night and found the car had sideswiped a telephone pole and crashed into a stone wall, according to the police report.

The car had major damage, including four flat tires, and was leaking fluids, police said. Kesner Lubin, 25, was sitting on the wall next to the car and told police he was driving his mother's car, the report stated. He told police he could not find his driver's license and gave the officers his address.

When asked for his version of events, Lubin allegedly told officers nothing happened and he was going to either drive or walk home.

Another driver told police she saw Lubin driving a black Audi "erratically" from Mahoney's Garden Center in Winchester, speeding southbound on Cambridge Street before going through a red light at the intersection of Cambridge Street and Johnson Road, according to the report.

Lubin allegedly swayed when asked to step away from the wall and his breath smelled of alcohol, police said. He denied drinking alcohol that night and was uncooperative during the field sobriety tests, which he failed, according to police.

Three attempts to test Lubin's blood alcohol level were insufficient, and he was placed under arrest. He allegedly became verbally abusive toward the officers and tried to head-butt them.

Officers found two empty nips, an empty liquor flask and two "large" empty plastic bags that smelled of marijuana in his car, according to the report. At the station, Lubin's blood alcohol level was tested twice more and registered at 0.18 and 0.19, police said.

Lubin was charged with operating under the influence of liquor (first offense), open container and reckless operation of a motor vehicle. he was also cited for a marked lane violation.
