📰 News we're reading

• William Paik: From social advocacy to stand-up comedy (waylandstudentpress.com) — Wayland High School alum William Paik helped spark lasting changes to WHS English and history curricula by pushing for better representation of Asian American and other marginalized voices. His student-led discussions and influence helped inspire the Black Student Union and new world literature offerings. Now a Chicago-based comedian and academic, he still hopes Wayland residents keep broadening whose stories they learn and share.

• Friday's football roundup: Fairhaven scores 22 unanswered to avenge West Bridgewater loss (bostonglobe.com) — Wayland football stayed undefeated at 4-0 with a 27-0 shutout of Waltham, powered by quarterback Mikey Johansson's 219 passing yards and two touchdowns plus Brajae Walton's 138 rushing yards and another score. The victory opened Dual County Thorpe play in dominant fashion and puts the Warriors in strong early position in their league. The roundup also highlights other notable high school wins statewide.

• Western Mass. residents sound off on pitch to send millions more gallons of Quabbin water east (wamc.org) — Western Massachusetts communities are pushing back against a proposal to draw 20 million more gallons a day from the Quabbin and Wachusett system, water that could serve new MWRA members including Wayland, Weymouth and Natick. Local leaders in Quabbin towns argue the plan lacks transparency about which eastern communities would benefit and say they already face strict water bans and limited access themselves. Wayland residents could ultimately gain MWRA water if regulators approve the expansion.
