'Mighty Quinn' Blood Drive At Mad Hatter In Weymouth

A blood drive in support of young Quincy cancer survivor Quinn Waters, whose family is from Weymouth, will be March 6 at the Mad Hatter.

WEYMOUTH, MA — A blood drive in support of Quincy 4-year-old cancer survivor Quinn Waters, whose family is from Weymouth, will be held March 6 at the Mad Hatter Restaurant. The blood drive is part of the "Give Pints For Half Pints" campaign out of Boston Children's Hospital where Waters was treated for a brain tumor last year.

Dubbed "The Mighty Quinn" during his recovery from a medullo blastoma, Quinn will also be the toast of the town in Weymouth once again this Saint Patrick's Day season. Waters will be the grand marshal of the March 29 Weymouth Irish Heritage Festival.

When he was housebound as he underwent chemotherapy, Ken Casey of the popular punk rock band Dropkick Murphys, with members from Boston and Quincy, performed "Shippin' Up to Boston" and other songs in front of Quinn's window in August. In September, members of the Quincy Police Department — along with more than 50 police officers from across the state — presented Waters with a custom motorcycle, license plate and a sign that reads "Mighty Quinn Way" in the city.

Waters, whose health continues to improve, recently celebrated his fourth birthday and started preschool.
