Spring Street Sweeping Returns In Worcester
Sweeping will continue for six to eight weeks.
WORCESTER, MA — The Department of Public Works in Worcester began residential street sweeping this week.
Sweeping in Worcester began on Monday, Apr. 6, and will continue for six to eight weeks.
City officials said sweeping will start in the section where trash is collected on Friday, then move through Thursday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday trash collection areas. Signs will be posted in neighborhoods before crews arrive.

Residential streets are scheduled to be swept from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays, while arterial streets, or primary roadways, are swept from 11:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. on weekdays.
Parking bans will be in effect during street sweepings, and vehicles that interfere with the work will be tagged and may be towed. There is a $50 fine for cars that are not removed for street sweeping, according to the city.

Worcester also said street sweepers cannot pick up brush, branches or yard waste. Residents are asked to bring those materials to one of the municipality's yard waste drop-off sites, and violators are subject to fines.
The city is also asking residents and business owners to help crews before sweepers reach their neighborhoods. Worcester said people can help with cleanups by sweeping sidewalk sand and debris into the gutter before street sweepers arrive.
