• Fifth Third-Comerica merger leaves some customers angry over glitches (bnd.com) — A Birmingham resident describes major headaches accessing his accounts after the Fifth Third–Comerica merger, including repeated online failures and long lines at the local branch. Other metro Detroit customers also reported login problems, missing bill-pay data, and ATM glitches as the bank converted 600,000 accounts, prompting Fifth Third to extend support hours and apologize for the rocky transition.
   

• National Merit scholars program names 535 Michigan semifinalists (detroitnews.com) — Several Birmingham students from Roeper and Seaholm High School have been named semifinalists in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program, placing them among the top scorers in Michigan. The statewide list highlights 535 high-achieving juniors from 121 schools, with winners competing next spring for thousands of dollars in college scholarships funded by corporations, colleges, and the National Merit program.
   

• Stevens wants Trump administration to address tariff refund backlog (freep.com subscription) — Birmingham's U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens is pressing the Trump administration to clear a massive backlog of tariff refund claims, saying Michigan businesses are still waiting for money owed after certain import levies were struck down. She and colleagues wrote Customs and Border Protection about delays that have left firms like Pontiac-based Astrohaus seeking six-figure refunds tied to overturned tariffs.
