📰 News we're reading

• Cities moving forward with Stephens Road greenway project (candgnews.com) — St. Clair Shores has formally adopted a feasibility study for the Stephens Road Greenway, a proposed pedestrian and bike corridor linking the city with Center Line, Warren and Eastpointe. City officials stressed no construction or funding is approved yet, while raising concerns about truck traffic, business access, and possible trailhead amenities at the Senior Activity Center. More engineering, public input, and grant funding will be needed before anything is built.

• Resident backlash prompts more cities to ditch Flock cameras (bnd.com) — St. Clair Shores residents should know the city council has ordered Flock license-plate cameras bagged while officials reconsider a contract that currently runs through 2030. Across metro Detroit, including Eastpointe, South Lyon and Independence Township, growing privacy concerns and some documented misuse have pushed several communities to cancel or curb Flock systems. Lawmakers in Lansing and Congress are also weighing new regulations on the technology.
