Trash Compactor Fire at Apple Valley Target Prompts Second-Alarm Response (limitless-news.com) — Firefighters kept a trash compactor fire from spreading to the Target store on Pilot Knob Road in Apple Valley Thursday afternoon, prompting a brief second-alarm call-back of local crews. Apple Valley and Rosemount firefighters, aided by Dick's Valley Service, moved and tipped the burning compactor, fully extinguished the flames, and reported no injuries or damage to the building.

Wings Credit Union Foundation invests $250,000 in 360 Communities (hometownsource.com) — Apple Valley residents should know that Wings Credit Union Foundation just announced a $250,000 gift, unveiled at its Apple Valley headquarters, to help rebuild 360 Communities' Lewis House domestic violence shelter in Eagan. The new, larger facility will double capacity and add more supportive services for families fleeing abuse, many from Dakota County communities. Organizers are encouraging locals to get involved and support the project.
   

4. MN Man Faces Manslaughter Charge in Fatal Tree-Trimming Incident (krocnews.com) — A worker was killed in a tree‑trimming accident at an Apple Valley job site, and a coworker now faces a 2nd‑degree manslaughter charge in Dakota County. Police say the victim died at the scene from severe head trauma after being struck by a truck's hydraulic grapple. The case highlights workplace safety concerns as investigators sort out exactly what happened.
   

5. Man crushed coworker's head while 'f---ing around' with tree-trimming machinery: police (komonews.com) — A worker died in Apple Valley after his head was crushed by a tree‑trimming machine during what another worker allegedly described as horseplay with the equipment's grapple arm. First responders found the victim with severe head trauma, and the coworker now faces a second‑degree manslaughter charge stemming from the August 20 incident.
