Tackling Lung Disease in Turquoise

On Thursday, May 10, the Gallery Event Space in the Power & Light District of Kansas City illuminated in turquoise for the 2018 LUNG FORCE Glam. More than 250 people attended the American Lung Association in Kansas & Greater Kansas City event, which raised awareness and funds in the fight against lung cancer.

Themed in turquoise, the signature color of LUNG FORCE, the event was presented locally by The Accurso Law Firm, The University of Kansas Health System, The University of Kansas Cancer Center and The University of Kansas Medical Oncology. FOX 4 meteorologist Joe Lauria led the event as the emcee and local lung cancer survivors Paul Wolford and Christy Fischer shared inspirational stories with the crowd. Nigro Brothers’ high energy created a fun live auction, and the crowd was in awe with one-of-a-kind cake centerpieces crafted by Park Street Pastry.

“It was tremendous to see our community come together to fight lung disease, which impacts more than a million people in Missouri and Kansas,” said Linda Crider, executive director of the Lung Association. “Thanks to our sponsors, volunteers, speakers and every single attendee, the LUNG FORCE Glam was a huge success and will truly make an impact on those who suffer from lung disease.”

LUNG FORCE Glam was held during national Women’s Lung Health Week, an annual observance from May 6 – 12. Almost 90 cents of every dollar raised will go to the Lung Association’s programs and services, including research, advocacy and public health education.
