Russell also was there the night before, unannounced, she alleged, threatening to harm himself if she called police. She stated that she calmed him down and he left the area on his bicycle. According to the report, an officer stopped Russell and spoke with him on North State Street but released him from the scene.
The officer met with the woman and reviewed some of the text messages, which included, “it won’t matter if your (sic) not alive” and “I want you dead,” according to the report. He also allegedly texted her and told her to look at her door.
“Look at the floor and guess why it’s wet,” he allegedly texted, “guess what made it wet.”
She looked and found lighter fluid all over the floor.
Russell allegedly texted again: “find a new place to live find new friends and family find a new town a new car,” according to the affidavit.
“(She) told me she is afraid for her life and she is scared of her ex-boyfriend because … he has complete disregard to human life,” the officer reported.
The officer was able to confirm that the odor was lighter fluid and while reviewing the text messages, Russell allegedly called the woman four times in a matter of minutes, according to the officer. The officer answered the phone and there was nothing on the other end. The officer returned the call but it went unanswered. The officer also called one of Russell’s relatives who stated that they didn’t know where he was.
The officer searched the area looking for Russell and then returned to headquarters to put together the report. While in the process of doing so, the officer heard dispatch state that Russell was allegedly at the victim’s apartment again and they were fighting over a knife after he reportedly pushed himself in, according to the report.
Officers and a sergeant arrived at the scene and arrested Russell. He was held on $5,000 cash bail.
