Another Earthquake? Yes. This Time, In Loudon

The U.S. Geological Survey reports a 2-magnitude quake near Pine Island Brook 11 days after an earthquake was reported in East Concord.

LOUDON, NH — Eleven days after a 2.7-magnitude earthquake was reported in Concord, a second quake was reported in the capital region.

On Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey and several Patch readers reported a quake in the area of Pine Island Brook in Loudon between Old Shaker Road and Lovejoy Road. The quake was about a mile and a half from the town line with Concord. The quake, according to scientists, was measured at a 2-magnitude. The earthquake was reported just after 2:45 p.m. was about 5 kilometers deep.

One reader said they felt the quake, heard “an explosion,” and their “floor shook.”

This is the first earthquake of 2024 in New Hampshire.

Many small earthquakes have been reported in the state for the past dozen years or so.

In Andover in May 2023, there was a 2.2 magnitude earthquake along Route 4. This time last year, a 1.9 hit Bow. About 13 months ago, a 2.1 quake struck Lake Winnisquam. And in May 2022, a 2.2 hit in Wolfeboro. Between 2012 and 2020, earthquakes were reported in Bedford, Concord, Contoocook, Hampton, Hopkinton, Laconia, Manchester, Nashua, Salem, Sanbornton, Tilton, and Windham.
