Another Small Earthquake Reported In North-Central New Hampshire

A 2.2 magnitude earthquake, one of more than 240 worldwide during the past 24 hours, was felt in Andover on Wednesday.

ANDOVER, NH — The residents of Andover, specifically the Potter Place neighborhood of town, got a bit of a rumble on Wednesday after a 2.2 magnitude earthquake was reported.

According to the United States Geographical Survey, the earthquake was just off the banks of the Blackwater River between Ragged Mountain Club Road and Bridge Road, just south of Main Street and Route 4. It had a depth of about 6 kilometers.

According to the survey center, the earthquake was one of 243 measured worldwide during the past 24 hours.

While not known for earthquakes, New Hampshire occasionally does experience small ones.

About a year ago, a 2.2 quake occurred in Wolfeboro, about 1,000 feet from Lake Wentworth. Nearly three and half years ago, a 2.1 magnitude quake hit about 35 miles away on the other side of the Lakes Region in Tilton. A 2.0 magnitude earthquake hit Sanbornton in February 2018.

In August 2021, a 1.8 quake hit Canterbury, while a 2.9 quake struck Warner in March 2016. A 2.1 hit the town in April 2015 while in July, a 1.5 earthquake struck Plymouth, and in August of that year, a 2.2 quake hit Epsom. In October 2014, a 1.7 quake struck Concord. The capital city also had a 1.2 in September 2012.
