Mayor, City Council, School Board Filings Start Friday In Concord

There are all kinds of seats to run for in Concord in 2019. Here's how to get involved … and don't forget to tell Patch, too, when you do.

CONCORD, NH — The beginning of the 2019 municipal election cycle starts up Friday in Concord. Voters will go to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 5, to vote for mayor, ward and at-large city councilors, district board of education seats, and other positions. Signups begin Friday for both city and school board positions.

On the city ballot, voters will choose a two-year term for mayor, two-year terms for ward councilors in each of the 10 wards, and two at-large (citywide) council seats for four-year terms. Ward clerks and moderators will also be elected to two-year terms as well as supervisory of the checklist for a six-year term.

The filing fee to run for mayor and council is $5 or the collection of petition signatures. Ward filing fees are $1.

Candidates can file between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Friday through Monday, Sept. 16, at the city clerk's office on Green Street. The clerk's office will be open until 6 p.m. on Thursday and 5 p.m. on Sept. 16.

District Board Of Education Seats

The filing period for Concord School District Board of Education candidates will open at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 6. Three members of the board, one for District A (Wards 1, 2, 3, 4), one from District B (Wards 5, 6, 7), and one for District C (Wards 8, 9, 10), are up for election. Signups for candidates will end at 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16.

The filing fee is $5.

Currently, Jim Richards is serving in District A, Nancy Kane is in District B, and Pam Wicks is in District C. Their terms end on Dec. 31.

The district school board members will serve three years beginning on Jan. 1, 2020.

Individuals wishing to declare candidacy for the Board of Education should file within the filing period with Roger B. Phillips, Esq., clerk, at Phillips Law Office, PLLC, 104 Pleasant St. in Concord.

An informational session will be scheduled Wednesday, Sept. 11, in the Central Office on Liberty Street, for new candidates interested in running.

Vote On Nov. 5

Voters go to the polls from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, to cast ballots for municipal offices. After the ballot positions are set, voters who won't be home on Election Day can request absentee ballots with the city clerk.
