2. NH Firefighters Memorial keeps alive the memories of those who died in the line of duty (concordmonitor.com) — Concord hosts the New Hampshire Firefighters Memorial at the state fire academy, where 98 fallen firefighters from across the state are honored, including four names added at a ceremony in late September. The Smokey Bear Boulevard site offers Concord residents and visiting families a solemn place to reflect on the risks firefighters take, with local chiefs describing how seeing classmates' names there brings home the dangers of the job.

3. There's still time to pick apples in NH before pumpkins take center stage (nhpr.org) — Carter Hill Orchard in Concord still has plenty of apples on the trees, even as many New Hampshire orchards wind down their season and pumpkins start to take over. Local and visiting pickers are filling bags, enjoying cider doughnuts, and soaking up foliage views, making this a good last-chance weekend destination for Concord-area families before fall shifts fully to pumpkin season.
