Mirsky: Strongest Candidates for President in 2020 – Cory Booker

On Saturday, July 13, 2019, my wife Joanne Petito and I were fortunate enough to attend a house party for US Senator from New Jersey, and 2020 Presidential Candidate, Cory Booker, at a beautiful home in Exeter, New Hampshire. It was a very hot day, about 89 degrees, and the event took place outside, but the warm weather was just a great backdrop for the warmth and positive vibes that all in attendance enjoyed from getting the chance to see and hear Cory Booker, who is really a remarkable presidential candidate, and a remarkable American.

Cory Booker doesn’t dwell on the negative but instead was very uplifting and inspirational. He is extremely personable, with a great sense of humor, and he is able to relate to and understand people of all ages. Some of the young people in attendance asked Senator Booker very important questions. One young girl, a fourth grader, asked him whether, after he is able to unite our country again, he will go on to work to unite the world. Cory Booker said yes, he will do that, we can do that with a more practical and positive foreign policy that focuses on supporting and regaining the support of our allies in the world.

Cory Booker appears to me to be a very serious leader who understands that we as Americans need a strong defense but also need to practice the ideals of peace and goodwill toward humanity that are the foundational beliefs of our country.

I have to say this: strong as Cory Booker is as a person (he was a high school All-American football player who played the position of tight end at Stanford University in California), Cory Booker believes deeply that we as Americans need to be guided by the principle of love for each other and for all mankind.

Cory Booker means exactly this: We as Americans need each other and we all have something to contribute to improve our lives and advance the hopes and dreams of everyone in our community. Senator Booker stated that it does not matter what your position is in our society, you can contribute something valuable to our society and our country, and he will make certain that you and your children get the chance to do so.

Cory Booker is unique among the presidential candidates in that he was the Mayor of Newark, New Jersey, a major urban center of America, and that Cory Booker successfully led the City of Newark through troubled economic times. You can see Cory Booker in action in Newark in the Netflix documentary, “Street Fight”, which chronicles his first campaign for Mayor against an entrenched power structure that would have intimidated most other people. But Cory Booker is and was unafraid of any challenge.

In terms of my comparison of Cory Booker to the other candidates I have seen running for President in New Hampshire over the years, I would say that Cory Booker is one of the brightest, strongest, most positive, inspirational and uplifting people you will ever meet, and we would all be lucky to have him as our next President.
