Mirsky's List of the Strongest Democratic Candidates for President: Fall 2015

Not one vote has been cast, you can still make a difference.

It’s officially the fall of 2015. We have seen a lot of ridiculous things happen this summer in the political world. We have seen a completely idiotic performance by one candidate, Donald Trump of New York, getting treated like it was the work of a genius. That is something that should be pretty unacceptable, but it has occurred because we no longer have the kind of national news media that we once had. Don’t get me wrong, we do have some great reporters out there, but on the Cable News shows, we have not seen their best work.

This is a look at the current state of the Democrats. Please note, as I always point out, that I am a supporter of one of the candidates, Hillary Rodham Clinton, so you have to look at what I say with a bit of a skeptical view. Nevertheless, I will say it.

DEMOCRATS

1. Hillary Clinton. You have to get one thing straight: the reason the Republican Party has consistently and relentlessly attacked Hillary Clinton for various undefined alleged doings is because Hillary Clinton is the Strongest Democratic Candidate for President in 2016. Hillary Clinton has the most and best experience, the deepest resources, and a genuine cause, which is the improvement of the quality of life for all children. Marco Rubio and his call to war in the Middle East will have a hard time competing with this.

2. Bernie Sanders, U.S. Senator from Vermont. Senator Sanders is running a strong campaign at the moment, but at the moment nobody is attacking him, even for his past self-identification as a Socialist, because Sanders is not seen as a threat by Republican Political Operatives. The GOP would love to run against Bernie Sanders in November 2016, when Sanders will be 75 years old. We are treading on dangerous ground here as Democrats if we pay too much attention to the public opinion polls at a time when only our strongest candidate is being attacked in the media and at GOP political debates. Poll numbers automatically decline when a candidate is subjected to negative attacks. Poll numbers stay high when the opposition is happy to wait until the general election to point out a candidate’s failings.

3. Martin O’Malley, former Governor of Maryland. Mr. O’Malley has a real opportunity to make a strong, positive impression on Democratic Primary Voters here in New Hampshire when he gets his first chance to debate Hillary Clinton. At that time, we will find out whether he is a worthy contender. At present, New Hampshire voters have received very little information about Martin O’Malley.

4. Jim Webb, former U.S. Senator from Virginia. Senator Webb has great experience, he was at one time the Secretary of the Navy under President Ronald Reagan. We really haven’t been hearing anything from him in the local New Hampshire media.

5. Lincoln Chafee, form U.S. Senator and Governor from Rhode Island. Mr. Chafee has a minimal presence in New Hampshire, but was mentioned to me once by a significant political activist as someone he might consider working for. I don’t think that came to fruition.

Just remember, if you want to be politically active in the 2016 Election, the clock is running, the New Hampshire Primary is expected to occur soon: on February 9, 2016 - so you’d better hurry up!!! If you want to know where the campaign offices are in the Exeter Area, just contact your New Hampshire State Political Party Headquarters, and ask them.
