VIDEO: President Barack Obama Hosts New Hampshire Rally at UNH

The president holds an election eve rally at 3 p.m. in support of the Democrat's nominee, Hillary Clinton.

DURHAM, NH — President Barack Obama continues campaigning for his party’s presidential nominee, hosting a get-out-the-vote rally at the University of New Hampshire’s Whittemore Center Arena on Monday, Nov. 7, 2016. The rally starts at 3 p.m. He was in Michigan earlier today.

The event is one of many the president has been holding in an effort to assist getting Hillary Clinton over the finish line in a very tight 2016 presidential campaign. Clinton was in New Hampshire last night, speaking before about 3,000, with James Taylor providing the entertainment.

The latest RealClearPolitics.com average daily national tracking poll shows Clinton with a 3 percent lead on averages, or less than the margin of error in most polling, meaning the election is going to be a nail biter.

The Electoral College map has also shown small surges for Republican nominee Donald Trump in places he needs to win and places no one thought he could win, including many historically “blue” states. One of those states is New Hampshire, which has voted for Democrats for president in every election since 2000. That is why both Clinton and Obama, and many other surrogates have been campaigning around the state, hoping to lock up the Granite State.

While New Hampshire only has four Electoral College votes, with a presidential race this close, both candidates may need them. And Clinton’s large lead – anywhere from 9 to 15 percentage points for many months – has evaporated. The latest RCP average shows Clinton with a 0.6 percent average lead mostly due to another UNH Survey Center/WMUR-TV poll that oversampled registered and leaning Democrats, showing Clinton with an 11-point lead. Clinton lost New Hampshire's first-in-the-nation primary by more than 20 percent to Bernie Sanders in one of the largest turnouts for a primary ever. Obama beat former Gov. Mitt Romney by about 6 percent – 39,000 votes – leading nearly everyone to speculate that there is no reality in the UNH Survey Center poll showing Clinton with an 11 point lead. Five other New Hampshire polls since the end of October show the race tied or Trump up by as many as 5 points, according to the RCP average.

Trump and his vice presidential nominee, Mike Pence, host a rally tonight in Manchester. Pence was also in Windham last night for a rally.
