Ted Cruz, Campaigning in Nashua, Calls for Obamacare Repeal

The Republican senator from Texas was the first to announce his bid for the White House in 2016.

U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, who earlier this week became the first candidate to announce a bid for president in 2016, campaigned in Nashua Friday and called for the repeal of Obamacare.

“Obamacare is the biggest job-killer in this country,” Cruz said at the Young America’s Foundation’s New England Freedom Conference dinner at the Radisson. “It has cost millions of Americans their jobs, forced them into part-time work, taken away their health care, their doctors, and they’re facing skyrocketing health insurance premiums.”

Cruz called for three specific reforms in place of Obamacare:

  • Allow people to purchase health insurance across state lines: “It would let people purchase low-cost health insurance.”
  • Expand health savings accounts: “People could save in a tax-advantaged way.”
  • De-link health insurance from employment: “There’s no reason you should lose your health insurance (if you lose your job).”

Cruz campaigned in Merrimack at a conservative business leaders rally earlier Friday. He was scheduled to speak to the Rockingham County Republican Committee and Seacoast Republican Women Saturday morning.
