Sobriety Checkpoint Coming To The NH Seacoast
This week, New Hampshire State Police will be holding a sobriety checkpoint in the Portsmouth area, according to a report.

PORTSMOUTH, NH — The New Hampshire State Police have petitioned the Rockingham County Superior Court to hold a checkpoint in the Portsmouth area this week, according to a press statement. Lt. John Hennessey of Troop A noted that troopers have seen increasing incidents of drinking and driving which is what prompted the request. The program is funded by federal highway safety funds and is approved by the New Hampshire Safety Agency and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, he stated.

“A review of records has shown that the use of alcohol by individuals who operate motor vehicles has resulted in an alarming number of deaths and personal injury accidents,” Hennessey said. “The sobriety checkpoint is one of the most effective methods of detecting and apprehending the impaired driver.”
