Bloomfield Exxon Station Robbed At Gunpoint, Suspect Flees Scene: Police

Bloomfield police are investigating an armed robbery that took place at the Exxon Gas Station on Bloomfield Avenue.

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Bloomfield police are investigating an armed robbery that took place at the Exxon Gas Station on Bloomfield Avenue early Monday morning.

According to the Bloomfield Police Department, a male suspect allegedly entered the gas station around 3 a.m. to make a purchase, then made his way around the counter and pulled out a black handgun from his waistband.

After cashier gave the man an unspecified amount of cash from the register, he got into the passenger side of a red, “older-model” Oldsmobile which fled the scene, police said.

Bloomfield officers obtained the license plate number of the vehicle, which the Hillside Police Department reported stolen on Sunday evening.

Nobody suffered injury during the robbery, police said.

Authorities stated that the male suspect was a black male about 5 feet 10 inches and between 150 to 170 pounds. In an online news advisory, police added that the suspect was in his mid-40's to mid-50's, wearing black framed glasses with a black baseball cap, black t-shirt and dark jeans, and walked with a "pronounced limp" in his right leg.

Police are conducting an investigation into the incident.

Bloomfield has seen other recent instances of robbery at local gas stations, including an armed robbery at the Shell Gas Station at 19 Beach Street in June and a grab-and-go attempt at the Shell gas station at 460 Bloomfield Avenue in April.
