Off-Duty State Trooper Helps Catch Fair Lawn Burglar

Police assisted with the arrest of a man they said was stealing items out of a delivery truck at ShopRite Thursday.

FAIR LAWN, N.J. — An off-duty New Jersey State Police officer reported that a man was taking items from an open delivery truck at ShopRite Thursday at noon, police said.

The state trooper, with help from Detective Paul Donohue and Detective Sgt. Tim O'Shaughnessy, detained William Zerenner, 58, of Hawthorne, after he was found with $100 worth of items meant to delivery to ShopRite, Sgt. Brian Metzler said.

Zerrenner was charged with burglary and theft, and released, Metzler said.
