Fair Lawn Package Thief Arrested

Joshua Pacheco, 23, was arrested after police saw him take four packages from residents' homes Wednesday afternoon.

FAIR LAWN, N.J. — A borough man accused of stealing four packages from residences was arrested Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Detective Mark Wyka was driving on 17th Street in an unmarked police vehicle when he saw a man take a package from the front steps of a residence and walk south down the street, taking three more packages along the way, Sgt. Brian Metzler said.

Wyka, with assistance from officers Luis Vasquez, Chris O’Shaughnessy, and Detective Paul Donohue, arrested the man, Joshua Pacheco, 23, of Fair Lawn, at 17th and St. Anne’s streets, Metzler said.

Police found assorted jewelry and evidence of drug use in Pacheco's possession, Metzler said.

Police found evidence of drug use and assorted jewelry in Pacheco’s possession, police said. He will be charged with three counts of theft and possession of a hypodermic needle. He is being held at Fair Lawn Police headquarters waiting to be processed.

The packages will be returned to their respective owners and the jewelry will be held to determine ownership, Metzler said.
