High Winds Rip Off Roof Of Saddle River Home

50-mile-per-hour wind gusts are possible Tuesday, police said.

SADDLE BROOK, N.J. — High winds Monday ripped off the roof of a residential and commercial building Monday morning.

The rubberized roof that covered the mixed-use building is dangling off the side of the President Street building and being held up by electrical wires from a utility pole, is Police Chief Robert Kugler.

PSEG was notified and police have closed the roadway on 4th and President streets.

"Hopefully the building owner can get his roofer on scene and a temporary fix initiated before the predicted heavy rains come," Kugler said. "If not, the matter will worsen for the building and especially the occupants."

A high wind advisory and flood watch remains in effect for the Saddle Brook area for Tuesday. Winds of 20-30 mph with gusts as high as 50 miles per hour can be expected. Heavy rain in accumulation of one to three inches is predicted, police said. Heavy rains and driving winds have the potential to cause trees and power lines.
