How Clean Socks Could Impact Brendan Creato Case

A sergeant and a 3-year-old girl walked the same trail David Creato said his son took the night he went missing. Their socks ended up dirty.

Haddon Township, NJ -- Clean socks.

That's one thing that stood out to investigators with the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office upon discovering the body of 3-year-old Brendan Creato. Even though the boy’s body was half-submerged a wooded area off South Park Drive in Haddon Township, his socks remained clean, investigators discovered.

The spot where Brendan Creato’s body was discovered was three-quarters of a mile from his father, David Creato’s, apartment. David Creato called 9-1-1 the morning of Oct. 13, and his body was discovered three hours later.

The following day, a sergeant with the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office walked the trail in his socks, without shoes on, according to philly.com. Investigators also had an unidentified 3-year-old girl walk the same path wearing just socks, and in both instances, the socks ended up dirty.

Investigators concluded that Brendan Creato’s body had been placed there.

Camden County Medical Examiner Gerald Feigin conducted the autopsy of Brendan Creato’s body, and explained to a grand jury that there are no diseases that could’ve killed the boy, and there was no evidence of an accident, according to the report.

This was all included in the prosecutor’s office’s response to attorney Richard Fuschino Jr.’s motion to have charges against his client dismissed because Camden County’s medical examiner failed to report to the scene for five days after Brendan Creato’s body was discovered in October.

The prosecutor’s office has called the motion “absurd.”

David Creato has been indicted on charges of first-degree murder and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child. His next court appearance is May 16.

David Creato has pleaded not guilty, but has remained in jail on $750,000 bail since his indictment.

The motive laid out involves his girlfriend, who has been vocal about the fact that she dislikes children, according to prosecutors. The prosecution says David Creato’s paranoia about losing her motivated him to kill his son.

His girlfriend said via Tumblr that she was concerned she might be a suspect in a “homicide investigation”in the weeks following the discovery.

Brendan Creato’s mother, Samantha Denoto, also lives in Haddon Township.

Christine Shah, an assistant county prosecutor assigned to the homicide unit, is handling the prosecution.
