Ida's Destruction In Hillsborough Area: Explosions, Deaths, Flood

Hillsborough had 2 deaths and a list of flooded roadways.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Hillsborough got slammed by Hurricane Ida leaving first responders scrambling to handle water rescues, death, destruction and flooding.

Multiple roadways in the township were impacted by severe flooding and remain closed as of 6 a.m. Friday including:

  • Dukes East is closed from Rt. 206 to Manville
  • Riverside Drive
  • River Road is closed between South Branch Road into Branchburg
  • Elm Street bridge is closed
  • Millstone River Road is closed from Yorktown in Millstone Borough all the way to Amsterdam Drive
  • Millstone River Road is closed at Hamilton Road all the way into Manville
  • Amwell Road is closed from Somerset Courthouse into Millstone Borough
  • Weston Road is closed at Boyd into Manville
  • Camplain Road closed from Sunnymead Road into Manville
  • Brooks Blvd. closed from 206 to Manville
  • River Road from Amwell Road to Branchburg
  • Rainbow Hill Road
  • Three Bridges Road
  • Black Point Road
  • River Rd. from Beekman Ln. to Basilone Bridge

Hillsborough residents are being asked to restrict their water usage for the next 48 to 72 hours due to the severe impact of Hurricane Ida. The Hillsborough Municipal Utility Authority sent out the request to residents on Thursday.

Mayor Shawn Lipani thanked all of the first responders for their hard work and Gov. Phil Murphy made an appearance Thursday.


The Auten Road Debris Facility will be open Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. for storm-related debris. Hillsborough residency is required to access the facility.

The rising waters flooded the TD Bank Ballpark home to the Somerset Patriots in Bridgewater. Read More: TD Bank Ballpark Underwater, Waters To Continue To Rise: Photos

"The ballpark flooded like much of the surrounding area. We are in the process of evaluating to what extent and the damage caused," said Somerset Patriots President/General Manager Patrick McVerry. "In the meantime, we are thinking about all our neighbors dealing with flooding of their homes and businesses and hope everybody is safe."

A New Jersey Transit train is causing issues on flooded tracks by preventing flood gates to close in Bound Brook. Read More: Stuck NJ Transit Train Stops Flood Gates From Closing: Videos

The Raritan Valley line remains suspended until further notice due to significant flood impacts.

There were also 2 houses that exploded in Manville and Somerville and another on fire. However, firefighters are having trouble reaching the Manville fire due to 8-foot-high waters. Read More: 1 House Explodes, 1 Still On Fire In 8 Feet Of Water In Manville

Duke Farms will remain closed until at least Tuesday due to extreme flooding.
