Monmouth County's Sept. 11 Twin Beams Will Return This Year

See the twin beams from Atlantic Highlands for one night only, from sunset to 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, rain or shine.

Monmouth County first started doing this in 2020, when New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio said he would be unable to shine the twin beams from Ground Zero as to not risk workers being exposed to coronavirus.

ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ — The Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners will resurrect its “Tribute in Lights” this September, which is the beaming of two rays of light to honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center.

The “Tribute in Lights” will be illuminated for one night only: From sunset to 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, rain or shine. The lights will be visible from Mount Mitchill Scenic Overlook in Atlantic Highlands, which has views of New York City.

This is the fifth year Monmouth County has beamed the lights, which is an expense to the county.
