Suicide From Highlands-Sea Bright Bridge Last Week

A man jumped to his death from the Highlands-Sea Bright bridge last Wednesday, the U.S. Park Service confirmed.

HIGHLANDS, NJ — A man jumped to his death from the Highlands-Sea Bright bridge last Wednesday, a spokeswoman with the U.S. Park Service confirmed to Patch. His body was recovered from the water, and life-saving efforts were made, but the man was pronounced dead.

New Jersey State Police, the U.S. Coast Guard and the federal park police based at Sandy Hook Gateway National Recreation Area, which is nearby, all responded to a call of a man that jumped. The park police boat got there first and attempted to give CPR to the man, but it was unsuccessful.

The bridge is 75 feet tall and spans the Shrewsbury river, connecting Highlands with the tiny oceanfront town of Sea Bright.
