Millburn Teachers Pack BOE Meeting, Fire Marshal Called (VIDEO)
Teachers and educators with the Millburn Education Association were protesting before the meeting over contract frustrations.

MILLBURN, NJ — Teachers and educators with the local union packed a recent meeting of the Millburn Board of Education, prompting a visit from an unexpected guest: the municipal fire marshal.
During the June 19 Millburn BOE meeting at the Education Center on Millburn Avenue, dozens of Millburn Education Association (MEA) members packed the building, quickly making the event a standing-room-only affair.
The educators – dressed in blue t-shirts reading “The Future Is In Our Classrooms” – had been protesting outside the building prior to the meeting, frustrated with the lack of a work contract despite prolonged negotiations with the district, TAP Into Millburn/Short Hills reported.

Members of the MEA have been working without a contract since June 2017. Issues have included salary and health benefits. In November, the MEA filed a notice of impasse with the state, requesting a mediator.
