GLEN ROCK, NJ — Police received a "large amount" of alcohol-related calls Friday night.

These calls included ones about large groups of juveniles causing disturbances around town, police said Friday.

Police broke up an unsupervised rowdy party at the Indian Road townhouses late last month. Officers from Glen Rock, Ridgewood and Fair Lawn spent two hours restoring order in the area. A 14-year-old hosted the party.

Council President Amy Martin and other officials are in the process of designing the Glen Rock Party Safe Parent Network. Registered parents could access a list of "safe houses" on a dedicated website.

Parents would have the contact information of network members' homes where there is a gathering so that members can reach that member and confirm that a parent is there and that alcohol won't be served.

"It isn't a cure-all, but it is a way for parents to feel like they are actively participating in curbing underage drinking," said Martin, a mother of three. "Underage drinking, kids have been doing it forever and they can feel really helpless in trying to fight it sometimes."
