Someone Steals Safe With $37K In Items From Summit Vehicle
The items included a platinum engagement ring valued at $35,000.

SUMMIT, NJ — Summit police reported that on July 18, a person reported that someone had stolen a safe from their unsecured motor vehicle earlier that day. The report was taken at 3:48 p.m. and the person said the theft had occurred some time between 9:30 a.m. at 2 p.m. that day.
The safe contained a platinum engagement ring valued at $35,000, a Louis Vuitton blue leather document holder valued at $1,500, numerous personal documents, a white gold wedding band valued at $500, and approximately $600 in foreign currency, the victim told police.
The total value of stolen items was approximately $37,800.00, police said.

Police did not reveal where the vehicle was parked or why.
Several thefts have occurred of unsecured vehicles themselves in Summit. And in May, someone made off with an unlocked car that contained a dog. The dog was later found safe.

Also in Summit police news: On July 17, the day before the safe incident, a resident of Glenwood Place reported to police that someone had stolen jewelry from their residence two weeks earlier, some time between July 1 and July 3. Taken were a gold-banded ring with a diamond and an amethyst stone laid in the ring, as well as $180 cash. The total value of the stolen items was reported to be $1,180.
