“Everybody evacuated without a problem,” Verley said from the scene Tuesday afternoon.

An ambulance was called for a report of a minor hand injury, but it was not yet clear if the fire caused the injury, said Police Chief Robert Wilson. Teaneck police and fire officials were investigating the incident.

"We couldn’t be more proud of the decorum of our students under the stressful conditions of the evacuation," Schools Superintendent Barbara Pinsak said. The school will be open Wednesday.

The fire was reported around 2:15 p.m.

Firefighters were responding to a report of house fire when the school fire call came in, Verley said. Teaneck firefighters along with mutual aid crews responded to the high school.  The reported house fire eventually turned out to be a heating problem.
