Flooding Shuts Down NJ Highways As Storm Impact Continues (Video)

Flooding shut down parts of major New Jersey highways as the impact of Monday's storms continued into the afternoon.
I-287 was shut down in Edison as video showed cars and trucks struggling to get around floodwaters. Read more and see video here...
Flash flooding on Route 17 north also closed part of the highway. All lanes on Route 17 northbound above Route 46 are closed, according to 511nj.org, the state's emergency traffic notification website. Read more here...

The thunderstorm and heavy rain pounded New Jersey Monday as power outages and flooding were reported throughout the state. Route 1 and other roads also had closures (see towns with most power outages and road conditions below).
More than 3,000 were without power Monday as winds exceeding 50 mph were expected to hit most areas of the state. The Grenville on Main Street in Bay Head was struck by lightning just after 7 a.m. on Monday. Read more....

A flash flood watch and flood warnings were in effect throughout the state until 2:30 p.m. Here were some of the biggest problems in New Jersey:
- Flooding closed some major roads in New Jersey, including part of Rt. 18 in New Brunswick and later part of Route 1 south in South Brunswick. Read more...

- NJ 124: Flooding on NJ 124 westbound I-78 in Union Twp. All lanes closed.
- New Jersey Turnpike - Hudson County Extension : Flooding on the New Jersey Turnpike - Hudson County Extension eastbound exiting at Interchange 14C - Toll Plaza in Jersey City the ramp to Columbus Drive is closed due to standing water.
- I-287: Flooding on I-287 in both directions North of Exit 1 - US 1 in Edison Twp. All lanes closed 90 minute delay.
- US 202: Flooding on US 202 in both directions South of I-287 in Parsippany-Troy Hills Twp. All lanes closed.
- NJ 38: Flooding on NJ 38 in both directions between CR 636/Cuthbert Blvd and CR 644/Haddonfield Av in Cherry Hill Twp. All lanes closed and detoured use caution, 10-15 minute delay.
- NJ 34: Downed tree on NJ 34 southbound South of Laird Rd/Conover Rd in Colts Neck Twp. All lanes closed and detoured use caution.

- Monday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 2pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. High near 60. Breezy, with a south wind 14 to 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
- Monday night: A slight chance of showers before 10pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40. West wind 9 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
- Tuesday: A slight chance of showers after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 52. West wind 10 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
