Murder Suspect Remains Jailed After Fatal NJ Apartment Complex Shooting: Report

Prosecutors say Zachary Lahneman had a gun​ when he left his apartment to confront Victor Marrero Jr. about his dog, a report said.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — A man accused of murder will remain in jail pending trial for shooting another man after a dispute over a dog in Washington Township, a report said.

Officials say Zachary A Lahneman, 26, shot 39-year-old Victor Marrero Jr. in the parking lot of the Birches apartment complex the afternoon of Nov. 16.

Lahneman faces charges of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. At a Tuesday hearing, Gloucester County Superior Court Judge Linda Lawhun ruled Lahneman would not be released while he awaits trial, NJ Advance Media reported.

Lahneman lived at the Birches apartment complex with family, officials said, and Marrero lived nearby.

The two had gotten in an argument about Marrero's German shepherd, which had gotten loose earlier that day according to NJ Advance Media. Prosecutors said Lahneman had a handgun when he left the apartment building to confront Marrero, that report said. Witnesses at a nearby golf course saw them shoving one another

Officials said Marrero, a father of three, died in the parking lot.
