Catalytic Converter Swiped, Jewelery Found: Westfield Police Reports

The Westfield police reports last week contained a range of crimes, including the theft of a sought-after car part.

WESTFIELD, NJ — A weekly compilation of reports taken by the Westfield police, ranging from Sept. 19-25, contained no car thefts, but a popular car part was stolen last week.

Thieves have been stealing catalytic converters throughout New Jersey and across the country. Three were stolen in one week in Scotch Plains recently.

In Westfield, a Livingston Street resident told police that some time on the morning of Sept. 22 or the day before, someone stole the catalytic converter from his vehicle. He said the vehicle was parked on the street in front of his residence. He estimated the value of the part at $600.

Ring Found

Police say that a Westfield resident found a gold-colored ring with diamond stones in the parking lot of the YMCA. The police are holding it until the owner claims it.

Bad Check

A business on East South Avenue told police on Sept. 21 that an unknown suspect illegally acquired and cashed a business check in the amount of $214.25.

Car Break-In

A Landsdown Avenue resident said someone broken into his unlocked vehicle on Sept. 22. However, nothing was taken.

Fake Disaster Relief Claim

Also that day, a resident of Cedar Terrace said someone applied for disaster relief money in his name on Sept. 17. The loan was denied due to improper information and victim did not suffer any type of monetary loss.
