Thieves Swipe $7K Cash From Porsche In Westfield
A resident saw, on their RING camera, two men enter an unlocked BMW and Porsche and steal $7,000 cash, Westfield's mayor said.
WESTFIELD, NJ — Among details of Westfield police reports released last week, a resident saw two men in hooded sweatshirts burglarize their two unlocked cars — swiping $7,000 in cash from one, a local official said.
Mayor Shelley Brindle noted in her weekly update on Friday that at approximately 9:04 a.m. on Wednesday, a resident reported to police that two vehicles — a 2019 Porsche and a 2020 BMW — were burglarized during the early morning hours while parked in the person's driveway on Amy Drive.
RING camera footage captured two persons in hooded sweatshirts and facial masks entering these vehicles at approximately 3:39 a.m., police said.

No vehicles were reported stolen from Westfield last week, but thieves have been targeting the town and nearby Union County towns for burglaries and car thefts. There have been 19 vehicles reported stolen in Westfield during this calendar year, 17 of which were subsequently recovered, the mayor said.
"Chief Battiloro reports that 90 percent of these vehicles were left unlocked with their key fobs inside at the time of their thefts," the mayor said.
She noted, as she and the chief have done before, "Please take appropriate action to protect your property. This includes removing valuables, including key fobs, and locking vehicles at all times, regardless of time of day. Also, please report all suspicious persons, vehicles and/or activities immediately via 9-1-1. Westfield remains a popular target for property crimes, particularly those related to high-end vehicles."
Westfield residents have reported a number of suspicious lurking vehicles and people to police in the past.
