Newlyweds Killed in Route 3 Crash
Paterson Mayor Jose Calderon said Jose Calderon and Ana Perez were married a few months ago. They died in the crash Sunday.

The man and woman who were killed Sunday night when the car they were in struck a tree off Route 3 were newlyweds, authorities confirmed.
The driver was Jose Calderon, a 49-year-old Paterson resident; and his passenger and wife was Ana Perez, a 34-year-old woman. They were pronounced dead at the scene after the crash, according to Paterson Mayor Jose Torres.
Torres said Calderon worked for Paterson’s Community Improvements Division and the two were married within the last few months.

Torres issued the following statement on the couple’s death:
“It is with a heavy heart that we received notice of the passing of Jose Calderon and Ana Perez, esteemed and respected members of Paterson City’s working family. Adding to this sorrow is the fact that they were recently married and embarking in a new life together.

“As Mayor of the City of Paterson allow me to express our gratitude for their service to this City and its citizens. It is an honor to have called them one of our own.
“We extend our deepest condolence to their children family and friends, our hearts and prayers go out to them.”
Authorities are investigating the crash. The car went off Route 3 and hit a tree on the side of the road on the passenger side.
