Softball for Sunday
Westwood hosted its second annual charity softball game to benefit the Sunday Stankowitz Scholarship
Sunday Stankowitz was known for her voice — high-pitched, yet soft and soothing. She called it her "one-inch voice," one of her students said.
Stankowitz used that voice to great effect during a 37-year teaching career spent entirely at Westwood’s Ketler Elementary School before passing away suddenly last year at age 62. Since her passing, the Westwood School District has created the Sunday Stankowitz Scholarship as a way to pay homage to a wonderful teacher who touched the lives of many Westwood children.
The scholarship is presented to a senior who is planning to study education in college. As a way to raise money for the scholarship, Westwood opened its brand new Westvale softball field by hosting the second annual Sunday Stankowitz Charity Softball Game.

Westwood Mayor John Birkner Jr. served as umpire and all the Westwood Softball coaches played, coached by their players. Tricky tray and 50/50 tickets also were sold to benefit the cause.
