Washington Township Freshman Dove Right In with Success
IHA swimmer Sara Nestrowitz has achieved success early on in her high school career
Sara Nestrowitz may soon run out of room for awards since she is only a freshman. Nestrowitz is a swimming phenom for and is a native of Washington Township.
During this past year, Nestrowitz has won Big North All League Honors First Team, First Team from The Star Ledger All-North Jersey Honors, First Team from The Star Ledger Rookie of the Year Honors and BCWCA All-County Honors.
“I've been swimming since I was 6 years old, and I've been in love with the sport ever since,” said Nestrowitz. “I practice six days a week with my club team, the Ridgewood YMCA Breakers, where a usual practice is two hours of swimming and an hour of weights and dry land. When I receive these awards, it really makes me feel great because I know that all my hard work paid off.”

Specialty races for Nestrowitz are the 50, 100, 200 and 500 freestlye and swimming for IHA is a dream come true for her.
“I've wanted to swim on the IHA swim team since third grade. I feel very lucky to be part of such a great program where everyone is very dedicated to the team,” she said. “I have a lot of support from all the girls on the team and we always have a great time together. Swimming for Coach Schlereth has been a great experience and I am looking forward to having him as a coach for the next three years.”

Nestrowitz has already been in big moments with her teammates. She has been under the bright lights and pressure of the state championship, where IHA won its fourth consecutive title. Nestrowitz came up big at the event when she won the 100 freestyle with an impressive time of 53.53, which was her personal best.
“The IHA swim team has a very successful legacy, and I'm glad to be a part of it all,” she said. “Helping the team win its fourth State Championship this year was a great accomplishment.”
A moment like that is great for any athlete to have, especially an athlete so young who is part of the future of the IHA swimming program, which has been successful for awhile. The future looks bright with an impressive freshman class including Nestrowitz.
When Nestrowitz is not swimming, she coaches cheerleading and swimming and hangs out and relaxes with friends.
