Westwood Pitcher has Milestone Game

Senior pitcher Chris Carroll looks to continue success on the mound after a one-hit game last week

The Westwood Cardinals took to the field at Old Tappan April 2 hoping for a win. They picked up that win by a score of 4-0 and a one-hit pitching clinic from senior Chris Carroll.

“It felt really good actually to go out there in the first game all season,” said Carroll. “It felt nice.”

The Cardinals are looking to have another successful season after making the County Finals last year.

Carroll looks to end his Westwood career strong and he certainly isn’t lacking the skill or passion to do so.

“Baseball has always been my true love. I played football when I was younger and just never felt the same way as I do about baseball. It's a great game,” Carroll said. “I have been playing ball as long as I can remember. It’s always been my favorite sport.”

Carroll’s attitude and school pride are crucial to being a great player.

“My career has been great,” Carroll said. “I have had a lot of success here and it's just a pleasure to be a Cardinal. I couldn't be happier.”

Carroll has also enjoyed his time playing for Head Baseball Coach Joe Yurko.

“Playing for Coach Yurko is great,” Carroll said. “He knows a lot about the game and I'm just happy to be able to learn from him.”

Carroll’s one-hit pitching performance at Old Tappan was a great way to kick start the 2011 baseball season for Westwood as they showed dominance and showed that hits will not be easy to come by for their opponents.

When Carroll is not on the baseball field he enjoys playing pick up games of basketball, golf, football and any other sports. He also enjoys hanging out with his friends and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Carroll and the rest of the Cardinals will look to make a return to this year’s County Finals, and this time, with a different result.
