Brush Fire Spreads Nearly Five Acres in Water Mill
Firefighters from four local departments worked to put out the fire on Monday morning.

Several local fire departments put out a large brush fire that started in an open field off of Little Noyac Path in Water Mill on Monday morning.
The fire was reported to the Bridgehampton Fire Department shortly after 11:30 a.m. and later requested assistance from the North Sea, Southampton and Sag Harbor Departments, according to The East Hampton Star.
The firefighters spent two hours putting out the fire that had spread almost five acres, according to 27east.

Firefighters stopped the blaze before it reached a nearby home, avoiding structural damage.
Bridgehampton Fire Chief Gary Horsburgh told 27east he believes the fire was caused by a rock that got stuck in a lawnmower and caused a spark to ignite.
