Cops: Pair Broke into 7 Stores in a Week

Two men charged with break-ins across Nassau, police said.

Two men were charged with breaking into seven stores within the past week across Nassau, according to Nassau County Police.

Garden City Police received an alarm call at 2:43 a.m. Saturday and responded to Mobil Gas Station on Franklin Avenue, police said. Responding officers found a broken window and saw Jermaine Clemmons, 35, of Roosevelt, inside the store, cops said. Clemmons tried to flee but was stopped by police, officials said.

Stephen Hudson, 49, of Hempstead, was also taken into custody as he walked away from the scene, police said.

Investigators discovered Clemmons and Hudson had broken into five other stores on the South Shore within the past week, including:

  • Woodfield Deli & Grocery in West Hempstead on Wednesday
  • Milk Farm Deli in Valley Stream on Thursday
  • Auto Fix Mobile Gas Station in Garden City on Thursday
  • Smoke Shop in Franklin Square on Friday
  • J&J Auto Shop in Franklin Square on Friday

The duo had also attempted to break into Brothers Deli in West Hempstead on Tuesday, cops said.

Clemmons was charged with six counts of third-degree burglary, attempted third-degree burglary, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Hudson was charged with three counts of third-degree burglary. Both were arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
