Former Owner of Sag Harbor 7-Eleven Sentenced to 7 Years in Prison For Wire Fraud, Harboring Illegal Aliens

Farruckh Baig, the owner of several 7-Eleven stores across Long Island and Virginia including one in Sag Harbor, was sentenced to 7 years in prison in federal court on Monday, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.
Baig, 58, of Head of Harbor, plead guilty to committing wire fraud as well as concealing and harboring illegal aliens employed at 7-Eleven stores.
According to court filings and facts presented in court, Baig who owned, managed, and controlled fourteen 7-Eleven franchise stores, hired dozens of illegal aliens, gave them over 20 identities stolen from United States citizens, housed them at residences he owned, and stole portions of his workers’ wages.

During the scheme, he generated over $182 million in proceeds from the 7-Eleven franchise stores, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
“Using the 7-Eleven brand in our neighborhoods, the defendant exploited his alien employees, stealing their wages and requiring them to live in unregulated boarding houses,” Acting United States Attorney Kelly T. Currie said in a press release. “He now faces time in prison for not only systematically employing illegal aliens, but also for concealing their employment by stealing the identities of children and even the dead.”

In addition to the sentence of imprisonment, the court entered an order forfeiting Baig’s rights to ten 7-Eleven stores in New York and four 7-Eleven stores in Virginia, as well as five houses in New York worth over $1.3 million.
He is also ordered to pay $2.5 million in restitution for the back wages that he stole from his workers.
