Update: East Hampton Travel Ban Lifted, Town Still in State of Emergency

The ban has been lifted as of 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

The official travel ban has been lifted in the Town of East Hampton, but the Town is still in a State of Emergency as of 10 a.m. Wednesday.

However, due to roadway conditions and highway crews working, town officials strongly encourage residents to stay off the roadways.

Roadway conditions are still treacherous, and travel is dangerous.

There is still no parking along roadways and residents must not park in a lane of travel, and use extreme caution behind the wheel - leave distance between vehicles, take turns slowly and yield to plows and emergency vehicles.

As the State of Emergency is still in effect, all Urban Renewal roads will be plowed by sub contractors as soon as possible, officials said.

The town and village Emergency Operations Center will remain open until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, and storm related questions for the Town should go to 631-907-9743.

After 3 p.m. Wednesday, all calls are directed to Police Headquarters at 631-537-7575 or the town Highway Department at 631-324-0925.

Town Government will reopen for regular business hours tomorrow, Thursday, January 29.

The Town of East Hampton has declared a State of Emergency, effective at 4 p.m., Monday, January 26, 2015.

The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for the East Hampton area through Tuesday night, January 27.

Significant snowfall and severe winds are expected, causing possible whiteout conditions.

Coastal erosion and flooding are also possible.

Residents are urged to refrain from unnecessary travel through Tuesday.

Vehicles may not be parked on public roadways during this event, and are subject to towing for violations.

All emergencies should be reported to 9-1-1. Non-emergency calls are directed to 631-537-7575.

Conditions will continue to be monitored, and warming centers will be opened, if needed.

Updates will be posted on the East Hampton Town website (www.ehamptonny.gov), LTV channels 20 & 22, and WLNG.
