Police: Man Accused of Killing Father Connected to Sagaponack House Fire
Southampton Town Police recently connected the son to a fire in Sagaponack back in September.

Thomas Gilbert Jr., who allegedly shot and killed his father Thomas Gilbert Sr., earlier this week, was recently found to be a ‘person of interest’ in a Sagaponack house fire back in September, Southampton Town Police told The Sag Harbor Express.
A Southampton Town Police Chief confirmed to the The Sag Harbor Express that Gilbert is connected to a fire on September 15 that destroyed the Main Street home in Sagaponack. The investigation is still active.

The fire was considered suspicious after a gas can and rags soaked in gasoline were found a few yards from the home.

A local homeowner and managing partner of Wainscott Capital Partners was found dead in his apartment in Manhattan on Sunday afternoon, according to multiple reports.
Thomas Gilbert Sr., 70, a part-time Beach Lane resident, was allegedly shot and killed by his own son, Thomas Gilbert Jr.
The younger Gilbert was arrested on Monday and charged with homicide and criminal possession of a weapon, according to an ABC report.
Gilbert’s wife found her husband in a bedroom with a gun close by and called 911 at about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Gilbert Jr., 30, “staged” the scene at the Beekman Place apartment to make it look like a suicide, ABC reported.
The Daily News reported that Gilbert Jr. was upset that his father had threatened to cut his weekly $400 allowance by $100 and stop paying the rent on his Manhattan apartment.
