Cops: Man Charged in Brutal Hempstead Stabbing

One man charged with attempted murder while police continue hunting others responsible.

Nassau Police made an arrest in a brutal stabbing that took place April 5 in a Hempstead parking lot, officials confirmed.

Eduar J. Jimenez, 23, of Hempstead, was arraigned Sunday on charges of second-degree attempted murder and fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon, police said.

Police believe Jimenez is one of several men wanted for attacking a man and his friend as they left El Mariachi Restaurant on Fulton Avenue.

Cops said at 3:21 a.m., the pair left the restaurant and walked to a nearby parking lot when they were suddenly surrounded by a group of 7-10 men.

The group stabbed the victim 14 times and beat him repeatedly with belts, cops said. He was able to break free from the beating and eventually collapsed nearby on N. Franklin Avenue, police said.

The victim’s friend was able to escape the group unharmed, police said.

Emergency responders rushed the victim to a nearby hospital where he was treated for superficial stab wounds. He suffered no internal injuries.

Police said they are still searching for other members of the group of attackers. Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
