15 Charged in Dog Fighting, Narcotics Sting

Number of laced heroin overdoses prompted early morning search in Roosevelt and Freeport, cops said.

Fifteen people from three counties were charged after a dog fighting and narcotics sting Wednesday morning, according to Nassau County Police.

After a string of fentanyl-laced heroin overdoses were reported in Nassau County, an investigation was launched by the Nassau County District Attorney’s Street Narcotics Gang Unit, cops said. During the investigation, officials found many of the subjects were likely engaged in dog fighting, pit bull breeding, and training, police said.

Investigators executed search warrants at five locations in Roosevelt in Freeport at 6 a.m. during an investigation into dog fighting and heroin overdoses. Men and women from Nassau, Suffolk, and Queens counties were charged with conspiracy, selling drugs, animal fighting, and more during the sting.
