Seal Spies on Water Rescue Drill in Atlantic Beach

Spectator watches Lawrence-Cedarhurst and Atlantic Beach practice life-saving rescue exercise.

Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department and Atlantic Beach Rescue Squad joined together this weekend to perform a life-saving rescue training.

As emergency crews braved the 34-degree waters and acted out a rescue, an unexpected spectator watched.

A seal watched from the shoreline as crews practiced rescues involving cardiac arrests, falls from the jetty, broken legs, and more.

On March 8, 2015, members of the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department joined the Atlantic Beach Rescue Squad in a joint water rescue training on the topic of removing victims off the jetties on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. The Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department & Atlantic Beach Rescue are often requested throughout the South Shore to assist the US Coast Guard in water rescues. Our volunteers train rigorously throughout the year no matter how extreme the climate may be. If you need us - call us.
