The students at MHS and Fairfield teamed up for a day in court.
The high school students in the Mock Trial classes prepared some court cases to teach the fifth graders about our country’s court system. Mr. Bachman invited Fairfield to visit for a demonstration of a Mock Trial. Some of the fifth grade classes even performed their own Mock Trial of The Three Little Pigs in the classroom before visiting the high school. It turned out that Mr. Bachman also chose to use some cases based on popular fairy tales and paused often to explain important court room vocabulary and concepts as needed.
All of the students were involved in some capacity. Some were jury members, some were judges with him, one was a bailiff, and the rest judged the performance of the plaintiff and the defendent.

The students were very impressed by the authentic court room they witnessed. The students took time to reflect on this experience and to paint their understanding of our justice system. The students did their civic duty while learning about our court system in a fun way.
