Massapequa Students Teach Each Other Sign Language
Massapequa High School sign language students lead a lesson for Fairfield students.

MHS and Fairfield teamed up again for their annual day of fun and learning. In December, the students in ASL 3 and ASL 4 planned activities to present to the fifth grade students at Fairfield who were studying about the life of Helen Keller.
The American Sign Language students worked for weeks preparing Smartboard lessons, games, and activities to teach the signs for colors, seasons, holidays, numbers, sports, family members, rooms in a house, animals, etc. They even learned to sing/sign Happy Birthday to a fifth grade girl.
Mrs. Smith, Mrs. McCarthy, and Mrs. Marks have been coordinating this trip for more than fifteen years and thoroughly enjoy seeing the enthusiasm the students have for teaching and learning. It is most rewarding to see the former Fairfield students who pursue American Sign Language because of their fond memory of this day when they were in elementary school. Certainly a day to remember.....until we do it again next December!
