Former NFL Player's Son Charged in Roosevelt Murder

Shooting happened in December, cops said.

The son of a former NFL player faces charges in the shooting and killing of a man in Roosevelt in December, according to Nassau County Police.

Elliott Fortune, 18, of Roosevelt, was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree attempted robbery, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon Friday, cops said.

Authorities believe Fortune shot and killed Sayvon Marcus Burt, 21, of Freeport, in an alleyway on Park Avenue in Roosevelt. Officials received a Shot Spotter alert at 4:15 p.m. December 20 and found Burt dead at the scene, cops said.

Police also believe Fortune and his brother tried to steal someone’s backpack on Long Beach Road in Roosevelt on April 20, according to Newsday. After Fortune told his brother to “just shoot him,” the unidentified brother shot the victim at close range in the face, according to the report. The victim survived.

Fortune’s father, also named Elliott Fortune, played for the Baltimore Ravens after a collegiate career with Georgia Tech, according to the report.

Fortune was arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
